Creating a Storyboard

Storyboards include an identified objective and then a description of the visual, audio, and text included in a video.

Getting Started

A storyboard is a graphic organizer that allows educators to outline their lessons before attempting to produce a video. A storyboard should include references to what will be seen and heard during a video including the visuals, text, and audio that you plan to incorporate. Designing a storyboard begins with the formulation of an objective and unfolds from there.

Objective: By the end of this video students will be able to write an effective thesis statement.

What tools are available?

Storyboards can be created quite simply; we often begin our storyboards as sketches on paper (sometimes it is nice to take a break from the screen). If you prefer working with digital tools ,PowerPoint or other slide presentation software can work well for creating basic storyboards. Free web applications such as Storyboard That are another good option.

What comes next?

After your storyboard is created, it is time to develop, gather, and organize your materials in accordance with your plan. If you make changes, don't forget to update your storyboard. Some educators work directly from their storyboards, while others find it helpful to create separate outlines/scripts based on their storyboards.

Basic PowerPoint storyboard templates are available for each video style in the toolkit
